The Pioneer Memorial Museum, located on 300 North Main Street, boasts six floors of family heirlooms that date from the Pioneer period (1847-1869). The collection is maintained and run by Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. The building itself was constructed for the Daughters with the help of the State of Utah in 1950. It is replica of the Salt Lake Theater that was constructed in 1862 and stood on the corner of State Street and 100 South until 1928, when it was sold to a telephone company and subsequently demolished.
The museum is devoted to celebrating the pioneer legacy of all those who lived in the Utah territory prior to the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869. The Pioneer Memorial Museum houses key objects in both Utah and Mormon history. So, stop by! It's free. Open: Monday- Saturday 9 am - 5 pm and Wednesdays it's open late until 8pm.
